Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Stressed? Struck by the calamities that everyday life brings? Author George Samuels recognizes the void of joy and peace in the average person's life and addresses how to live a meditated life in his book, Calm in the Water. If you have ever 'gone through the motions' or have felt numb in the midst of excruciating circumstances, this book is for you. Samuels uses a different approach to peace through three stages - identification, remediation, and meditation, which promise to bring transformation. Once you identify your source of distress, Samuel argues, then you can seek remediation to diminish it through meditation. This book is a worthwhile buy as he has the ability to cater to his audience through his understanding of the everyday problems the overworked face.

When I first picked up Calm in the Water, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life (as all great beginnings start). Prior to this, I was feeling stressed, worried, and ridden with frequent anxiety attacks. I wondered what was making me feel this way and, through this book, I was able to have my eyes opened to the power of reflection, meditation and peace. What I loved about this book was the unique poems and photographs Samuels incorporated within each chapter. He also provided a checklist of things to do. Since I am a very 'To Do' list centered person, I thought it was a helpful and practical way of remembering what I learned in this book. Overall, it was a fantastic read and I'm glad I picked it up.
