Cloak of the Light by Chuck Black is the first in a new series for young adults and teens. It features two friends who come together in a tense school-related situation. Drew comes to a new school, hoping for a position on the team's football team. Ben is the school geek and everyone takes advantage of him. Sydney is a beautiful girl who immediately catches Drew's attention. When Drew forms a friendship with Ben, everyone pretty much avoids them as well. And then, tragedy strikes Drew and he is further ostracized. Ben becomes his sole contact until a science experiment goes horribly wrong and Ben disappears. Drew is lost. He begins to wander in hopes of contacting Ben and making sense out of his world gone wrong. Ben has spoken of aliens and now Drew becomes a believer. The science experiment has left Drew with extraordinary powers. When he detects "invaders" in the environment, he becomes committed to helping those targeted by the aliens.

The characters of Drew and Ben are beautifully portrayed and highly believable. The character of Sydney does seem a bit rigid but there seems to be a purpose for that. Cloak of the Light will appeal to young people who want a different way of viewing the battles of angels and demons. Black has made an interesting story from traditional Scriptures and it is one which will grab and keep the interest of those needing to learn of God's light in a non-traditional way.
