Crimson Roses by Tess Thompson weaves suspense, murder, and romance into a fascinating novel. Pepper Chan had put her terrifying abduction behind her, or so she thought. She still wrestles with trust issues but feels she has a handle on things with her present boyfriend, Lance. When Pepper receives crimson roses the day before Lance was murdered, new doubts and old fears merge. A high school friend, Kris, and her brother, Roddy, take her under their wing and offer her support during this difficult time. Roddy represents Pepper as a legal counselor and Kris uses her private investigating skills to find some answers to her abduction. There is no doubt a serial killer is targeting Pepper’s friends and family and it is someone close to her, but whom?
Crimson Roses is a novel written by two sisters, Charlene Tess and Judi Thompson; their combined names make up the pen name Tess Thompson. This captivating pair writes a powerful story that draws the reader into the lives of Pepper and Roddy. Pepper’s struggles become real when she faces the trauma she has been suppressing of her abduction and the fight to free herself. The pace is quick as the killer continues to strike but is slow to reveal who is the evil mastermind. The characters are successful professionals with well-developed personalities. You feel you could meet them in a store, in a restaurant, or live next door. The theme of an old nemesis coming back into Pepper’s life could be traumatic if the reader had an overbearing relationship at one point. The authors’ skillful writing just touches on the fear Pepper experienced and focuses primarily on the suspense. This novel will be remembered for the characters’ optimistic outlook, their hope for a future, and resolve to help a friend.
