Crosby the Not-So-Snappy Crocodile is a picture book in the animal adventure subgenre and forms part of the Bit Different Collection of stories. The work is for young readers, accompanied and newly independent, and was penned by author Joanne Moore with lively illustrations provided by artist Michelle Gemmel. As its title suggests, this charming picture book focuses on the protagonist Crosby, a crocodile who is a little different from the others around him. Crosby prefers to be gentle and friendly to others, but the other crocodiles are mean to him because of his choices. However, when Crosby ventures out into the big scary world, he finds there might be others who will love and accept him just as he is.

The whole concept of this series of charming little books is utterly lovely, and I was floored by the simplicity with which author Joanne Moore can deliver such a complex emotional message. Crosby is the ideal character for this soft and gentle leading figure to become a hero in their own right, and I was delighted to see the message of acceptance and especially self-acceptance so deeply ingrained with such accessible dialogue for young readers to enjoy. The work is also superbly entertaining with many loveable characters. The illustrations by artist Michelle Gemmel really bring Crosby to life and do a great job at signifying his emotional state at different points in the story. Overall, I would certainly recommend Crosby the Not-So-Snappy Crocodile for parents, guardians, and teachers to treat their little ones to a gorgeous story.
