Steeped in secrets and intrigue, Kara S Weaver's story has built a fantastic world for readers to sink into. Crown of Conspiracy: The Ilvannian Chronicles follows a headstrong and outspoken princess in the Ilvannian kingdom. As the next in line to the throne, Shalitha spends her days in lessons and training but barely tolerates the restrictions her position places on her freedom. With enemies at every turn, she can’t afford to ever let down her guard. Her days in the palace are filled with characters readers will be quick to love. From familial banter with her brothers to ribald teasing with her royal guards, the dialogue truly shines.

Readers looking for a satisfying slow-burn romance will love the tense quiet moments between Shalitha and her head of security, Talnovar. Tal is a quiet, brooding kind of man whose only weakness seems to be his intense feelings for the woman he’s sworn to protect. When your job is protecting someone who fears very little, you have your work cut out for you. Through the myriad twists and turns, I sometimes found the darker, more emotional elements a little overwhelming. The plot delivered moments that had me shouting in frustration and the final scenes will leave you on the edge of your seat. Fans of epic fantasy will appreciate Kara S Weaver’s complex and detailed world-building. If you are ready for a whirlwind from beginning to end, you will want to pick up Crown of Conspiracy and block off your schedule for the week. A well-written story.
