Dead Reckoning is a work of fiction in the horror, thriller, and suspense subgenres, and was penned by author Ivan Blake. The third novel in the Mortsafeman book series, the work is intended for the mature adult reading audience owing to the use of explicit language throughout and some references to dark themes such as sexual abuse. We see Professor Ignatius Greyson at the end of his tether, on the brink of being terminated for his crimes. As the Professor becomes hell-bent on power and vengeance, he ropes in the unsuspecting Chris Chandler to aid him. For Chris, this is the start of a horrifying voyage of discovery and a battle for justice and his very life.

Author Ivan Blake knows how to build up a story and have readers rocking on the edge of their seats until the bitter end! In terms of its presentation of character, I found that the use of close narration created a deeper emotional resonance, and I felt that Ignatius Greyson was one of the most complex and well-crafted dark figures that I’ve seen in horror, and that’s in very a long time as a fan of the genre. There are elements of charm and genius wove seamlessly into the danger, and the work has a rare sophistication in its narrative quality and overall confidence of storytelling which is to be admired. Overall, I would certainly recommend Dead Reckoning to fans of the existing series, and any reader seeking a psychological, fulfilling, and bone-shaking horror story with complexity and genuine terror.
