Sandra Brown's Deadline is a realistic, fast-paced thriller, true to her writing style. Dawson Scott is a journalist who will do anything, go anywhere to get a cutting edge story. He has just returned from a lengthy stay in Afghanistan where he sees first hand the effect war has on even the most level-headed soldier. Every night, he has the same nightmare that he cannot shake. Through soaked sheets and terrified screams, he wakes sometimes several times. Pills and liquor are his therapy. He is summoned by his godfather to follow a murder trial, to gather information on a link to a cold case the FBI agent has been following for decades. He has no idea that this story will lead to the roller coaster ride of his life with gut wrenching twists and turns that outweigh even the war zone. The irony of it all is whether or not he will choose to actually submit this hair raising story when it all ends.

I will start out by saying that I absolutely love anything that Sandra Brown writes. Her writing style is fast paced, realistic and intense. Deadline is equal to her other writings, so 'real time' that you wonder if you read about this somewhere some time. There are some very sexually explicit scenes that are definitely cold shower-worthy. While I could have done without that, I am sure others will disagree. At any rate, Sandra Brown has done a brilliant job with Deadline. I highly recommend it to any thriller enthusiast!
