The author of Fabulous Faces is Dr. Peter Adamson, a certified facial plastic surgeon with nearly forty years of practice. He offers the reader a no-nonsense glimpse into the world of facial surgery from start to finish. He first explores the reasons that patients might consider surgery and concludes that there is really only one person who must make such a decision. Dr. Adamson relates that there are valid reasons for both men and women to have surgery, and there are valid reasons why surgical procedures should be rejected. Skin maintenance secrets are discussed, with a progression from various facial creams to procedures such as Botox injection, facial peels and microdermabrasions.

Surgical procedures are discussed in detail, with patient accounts vividly portraying the fears and anxieties which proceed the surgery and the swelling and pain which must be expected for all post-surgical procedures. The author also gives the reader valid information regarding finding the right plastic surgeon with credentials and surgical experience so that the likelihood of a positive outcome is enhanced.

The reader cannot help but wonder about the motivations of some of the patients. However the portrayals are honest and believable, and they provide general support for those seriously considering undergoing cosmetic surgery. At the end of the book, the author provides a glimpse into the facial reconstructive procedures used by plastic surgeons in war-torn and third world nations. This may have been intended to add legitimacy to the book, something that was not necessary, given the main text of the book. This is an informative and authoritative book which should be considered a highly credible medical reference for those interested in cosmetic surgery.
