I was looking for a great little primer on how to approach making a good first impression, and First Impression Express really did what I needed it to do. I’m not particularly socially adept, and this book gave me some specific, concrete advice on how to naturally and gracefully come off as a person who people want to know. I especially appreciated the chapter on the “Square Dance” of social interaction. It takes you through the steps to create a good impression in a way that feels genuine, positive, and, most importantly, completely doable. This is a great guide to review before your next party, date, or work function so that the information is fresh in your mind. Highly recommended!

Every thought about what first impression you are leaving with others when you meet them for the first time? This booklet addresses those concerns and gives practical advice on how not to just be another forgotten face. The key, the author argues, is making yourself stand out somehow – make yourself memorable by being incredibly nice to other people so they trust you. One does this by tapping into all of the senses of others. Smell, touch, sound, sight, and intuition are all senses that others have when they meet you. If you can leave a great memorable impression in each of these areas you have scored big and they won’t soon forget they feeling they have by being around you.

The greatest way to leave a good impression is to be a good conversationalist. Chapter 3 is full of sample statements to use during a conversation so you can compliment the other party and relate to them. The author argues that you can read the body cues and and react the right way to keep the conversation flowing smoothly down the course you steer it.

This booklet feels like the cheat sheet of how to get people to like you. Having read “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Carnegie this feels like the spy’s version of how to woo and seduce people by using their insecurities against them. If that is what you are looking for, you will find it here. This is the Hitch guide to making people be attracted to you.
