Author Biography

From the magical fjords and mountains of Norway to the mythical highlands of Scotland, and down under to the mystical red sands of Australia, Carina Steinbakk has gathered the inspiration for her first novel, Flames of Eader. Her wild imagination, sprinkled with life experiences, and her engineering background sheds a colourful yet critical light on Earth’s wayward yet extraordinary ways in this twilight tale. She is also highly particular about her taste in chocolate and pet doggies, and believes in unicorns.

Flames of Eader is an urban fantasy by Carina Steinbakk. A seemingly random walk in the woods turns the life of twenty-six-year-old happy-go-lucky guy Grey upside down as he finds himself in the Gateway realm of Eader, surrounded by the Guardians who act as the last line of defense between Darkness and Earth. Grey soon learns he is the last of the Fiors, gifted with extraordinary abilities as a Conduit. With the help of General Darby of the Eader Army, Grey joins the Academy in Manawa to train and hone his powers, eventually acquiring the memories of his past that may define who he becomes in the future. But the Dark Warrior Cox is escalating his attacks on Eader, and Grey might be the only one powerful enough to stop his nefarious plans.

Fast-paced, action-packed, and filled with magic and mayhem, Flames of Eader is a delicious treat for fantasy lovers. Author Carina Steinbakk doesn't waste a single word and drops the reader right into the scheme of things from the get-go, and from there on, it's a blistering ride to the finish line. There's a lot to love about this book, with a narrative featuring thrilling action sequences, mystery, magical creatures, and compelling characters you love to hate or hate to love. The moments involving Grey's time at the Academy training with his friends and rivals were some of my favorite parts of the book. I also liked the different relationship dynamics between Grey and Darby compared to someone like Callan. Overall, this is a fantastic book for young and new adult fantasy readers.
