Author Biography

Poetry has always been a strong practice when it creates prose. It has taken a long time to cultivate my new book - FOUR PHASES: Lost, Impermanence, Bittersweet, Caring. I have published several prior poetry books but none like the new one that has shaken me up. My new book deals with poetry and prose at four different levels that are necessary to balance our world. Severe Climate Change is already upon us and needs swift action to give homo-sapiens a chance of survival. However, the global pandemic and Russia’s war devastating Ukraine may detrimentally affect the world from taking the possible route to a live-able Earth as we know it.

Four Phases: Lost, Impermanence, Bittersweet, Caring by Dr. Ian Prattis is a collection of poems and short stories about his spiritual journey and how he has connected to himself and nature through what he describes as The Three Gems, namely Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Prattis provides vivid descriptions of the destruction society and corporations inflict on nature. To reconnect humanity to nature, he writes about self-awareness, mindfulness, and the beauty of nature so that humans will see, experience, and appreciate it once more. Instead of merely advocating for environmental change, Prattis writes to inspire an awareness of self and nature, which is undoubtedly more effective than only activism. As people have become embroiled in their lives of constant busyness and accumulation, bringing them back to the true magnificent gift of nature could be the solution to the earthly demise that environmental activists have been seeking.

Four Phases: Lost, Impermanence, Bittersweet, Caring by Dr. Ian Prattis is a creative, original, and exceptional collection of poems and short stories. I found Prattis's approach to environmental activism insightful and refreshing. While environmental activists seek to bring society, government, and corporations' attention to the destruction of nature, many ignore the message or feign concern because, generally, people have lost touch with nature in a highly industrialized world. By first reigniting an awareness and appreciation of nature and the peace it brings humanity, society can understand the need to protect the environment and even become active in saving our planet and advocating for peace. After reading this book, I have become reacquainted with nature. Prattis has revived my love and adoration of nature.
