Gillian MK2 by Gillian Firth is an intriguing autobiography. Firth’s life stopped as she experienced a devastating car crash in 1994 that resulted in a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Fortunately, she survived. Unfortunately, after six weeks in a coma, she woke up disabled. Her memory is not what it used to be, and while she did not lose any limbs, her mobility has been adversely affected. Her life's pace may have slowed, but she was not done living. Gillian journals episodes of her life over the next four years. She shares jokes, poems, pictures, gripes, and mundane stories in such a conversational tone that it seems like she is sitting in the room with you.

I enjoyed Gillian MK2 by Gillian Firth. In her efforts to make the people around her anonymous, she uses nicknames for them. For example, her ex-husband is aptly given the nickname Pathetic. His lack of support for her during her time of need is irksome. Additionally, I was upset on her behalf with how rude some people were to her due to her disability. Hence, it was a delight to see how supportive her family is toward her. Firth is prone to go off on a tangent in the middle of a story. Thankfully, these excursions are often entertaining. Talking about tours, Gillian’s recounting of her trips to Italy and Tunisia was hilarious. I especially loved the story about a literal cat burglar trying to steal her sandals at a hotel. This autobiography is a testament to the resilience of the human mind.
