In the description of this collection of spiritually deep and sensually appealing poems, Going Deeper: Angels and Dreams by Anna-Karen Sorensen, we read: “We walk with the earth through the senses of our bodies and fly with the angels with the intuition in our hearts” and there could be no better way of capturing the essence of these poems and spiritual insights. The author pulls the reader from the mortal realm into spheres of transcendent reality, drawing the reader into streams of light. In this collection, the author allows her poetic intuition to meld with her spiritual senses and draws on religious symbolism to speak to the heart and soul of the reader.
There are relevant allusions to philosophy, art, and religion, and the author uses the lines of her poems to establish the intersection between these different sources of knowledge. There are moving insights and explanations between the poetic lines, and they are done in a language that is as evocative as the poetry. The images speak volumes and the author offers some thoughts about them. Going Deeper: Angels and Dreams is a poetry of the soul, written in a style that is original and, as one reads from line to line, one is given a glimpse of the unsayable, those unspoken truths that are just known to be so. There are things for which we find no language, but the poet makes us feel them, makes us experience infinity in mortality, and welcomes eternity in short lines of poetry.
