Discover the wonderful world of sea creatures, mammals and other animals in this wonderful book of poetry, Going to the Dogs and Other Critters by Janet Cameron Hoult. The poems are beautifully constructed and encapsulate the characteristics of the animal world and what they may say if they could speak to you. Explore the world of nature in a fun and entertaining way. Your children will love meeting all the characters including the Red Octopus, Noah and The Woodpeckers, a scary tale about a snake and the way turtles can escape from the world and into their shell. There are so many poems included in the book and, as a bonus, you will be shown how to make your own fun puppet animal too. A great book for any child that loves nature and the animal world.

Going to the Dogs and Other Critters by Janet Cameron Hoult is a perfectly written book of poetry that all animal lovers would enjoy. The author has brought the animals to life and given them each their own unique personality. I loved Brandy's Thoughts because I think this is exactly how a dog would feel when a new dog joined the family; it was very funny and got the personality of a dog perfectly. Another favourite of mine was Doggy Finger; the author was spot on with this poem. Every poem has been carefully thought out and crafted. The author has an obvious love for the world of nature and this shows through her writing. I feel this book would also make a perfect bed time read for children and their parents. Children would also enjoy meeting the different creatures and stepping into their world.
