“A friend in weed is a friend indeed!” No one knows this better than Mary Drummond in C.M. Albrecht’s humorous adventure, Hail Mary. Mary stays with her son, Craig, and his family after her husband’s death. Her close friends, Gracie and Maudie, visit to offer their support, and the three elderly women literally relive their former wild, partying, glory days. Mary and her friends smoke weed, guzzle alcohol like water, and behave like uninhibited, smart-mouthed twenty-year-olds around men. Mild-mannered Craig disapproves of his mother’s reckless behavior, yet wishes he was more assertive like his sister and in control of his own life. When Craig does not receive the job promotion he expected, his attitude changes towards the boss and he is fired. Mary’s latest shocking antic increases his frustration as he wants her to change her lifestyle while pondering his.

Hail Mary is a very amusing adventure with three high spirited, elderly women who never behaved old or lost their spunky attitude to life. They live their lives to the fullest, testing the law’s limitations and their own endurance to do anything that pleases them. There is never a dull moment in this entertaining story by C.M. Albrecht, who takes full advantage of every scenario that the muse presents. Mary and her friends are similar to the Golden Girls, only a bit more daring and brazen. The author’s in-depth descriptions of Mary’s escapades are comical, especially with the colourful characters involved in them. Hail Mary by C.M. Albrecht is a must-read and comes highly recommended.
