Author Biography

Amanda Mahan's secret mission began in high school when she won a writing competition with an essay about a skydiving trip. The fact that she never actually went skydiving suggested a career in fiction. After graduation, she spent several years writing comedic online games and worked on two NBC sitcoms. She was also the writer and creator of the People's Choice award-winning "Green Mommy" blog.

Amanda is an expert in applying lip balm, a complete failure at doing her own hair, and specializes in baking addictive red velvet cupcakes. She lives in the Bay Area with her husband, two munchkins, and entirely too much glitter.

Heiress, P.I. -- think Veronica Mars meets Gossip Girl -- is her first novel.

From the cover to the final page, Heiress P.I. by Amanda Mahan is an adventure and a blast. Lucy Hansen is one of those elite teenagers we like to follow religiously on the gossip magazines and blogs, but she's also pretty elusive. Unusually shy for one of the golden children, Lucy is more concerned with "green sweatpants" and her environmental causes than dance class and becoming a powerful social climber. She's also in love with someone who is (gasp!) poor! Holden works for a private investigator and when he asks Lucy to help, she says yes...maybe not JUST because she could get closer to him. The job turns out to hit closer to home than Lucy realizes when scandal begins to buzz around her family and it's up to her and Holden to figure out just what is going on in the world of glitz and glam.

This surprisingly smart novel, with allusions to more literary classic works like Dickens and Austen, had me intrigued. You pick up Heiress, P.I. expecting an enjoyable piece of fluff literature, but it has a lot of quality to it and isn't the typical beach read that you don't care if you lose it or not. Amanda Mahan's writing is really the kicker here. It's strong and funny, nay, hilarious, and you pretty much fall head over heels in love with Lucy from the first few chapters. Just a warning, be prepared for a cliffhanger ending. Those are not my favorite, but at least it means there should be a sequel in the near future!
