I Am a Superhero Expert: Growing up with My Autistic Brother by Josh Stehle is a moving, inspirational introduction to autism. Josh's brother, Zack, is autistic but doesn't let that hold him back. Through life experiences, Josh shows the reader what life can be like if people don't understand who you are. He shows how his brother lives (like one of the superheroes he loves) by being good, strong, giving, and kind. As superheroes help others, so does Zach. His attitude—and especially his letter to the reader at the end of the book—moved me greatly.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up I Am a Superhero Expert by Josh Stehle, but by the time I had gone through my third wet hankie toward the end of the book, I knew it was for me and everyone else. I must clarify that I was crying tears of emotion, not sadness. The beautiful relationship between the two brothers and the incredible way Josh talks about Zach is powerful. Josh writes to depict his brother as extraordinary—which he is. But more than the light that shines from Zach's character is the love of these brothers who desire to make the world a better, happier place by helping anyone they can: a remarkable memoir and a stunning life-altering introduction to autism. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys beautiful, inspirational memoirs.
