"I Miss You Erma: Amusing Musings of a Non-desperate Housewife" is the life story of author Lynne Boortz. She seems to be a typical American girl growing up in the 1950's. She fell in love with Jerry, got married, had children, and stayed married to the same man all her life. Living the life of a modern fairy tale, she produces three children who go on to become useful members of the society. There are also moments in her life that are no laughing matter like the struggles of a young couple and Jerry's operation for appendicitis, for example, but she chooses to tell them in a way that still tickles the reader.

The plot of this novel may seem uninteresting but when it is told in a string of funny anecdotes, it is amazing how this simple plot can read like a bestseller. Humorist Lynne Boortz can certainly laugh about herself. In "I Miss You Erma: Amusing Musings of a Non-desperate Housewife" we are presented with a memoir of a woman with a seemingly ordinary life but what makes it extraordinary is her refreshing sense of humor and wit. At the age of 72 and half deaf, the non-desperate wife entertains the readers in the first chapter of her book aptly entitled 'Young at Heart'. Then she goes on to recount how it is to grow up in the 1950's in the state of California. Married at a young age and living the life of a young American wife, she recounts moments that are funny and sometimes hilarious. Her story ends where it begins, making the story tight. And her unpretentious sense of humor will surely turn a gloomy afternoon turn into a beautiful sunny day.
