Imogen's Tea Party is a children’s picture book by Amy Louise Hill. Imogen is a friendly little girl who has invited several friends to a tea party and asked them to bring treats. Her friends are Elsie the elephant who likes apples, Teegan the tiger who likes vegetables, Spike the hedgehog who likes tea, and Tessa the cat who likes tuna. Their snacks also include peanut butter sandwiches and doughnuts. After cleaning up, they bid farewell, and Imogen wonders if more of her friends will come next time. Eight coloring pages are included that add more of Imogen’s friends including a puppy, a bear, a rabbit, and a turtle to those who were at the tea party. Full-color illustrations add to the reader’s enjoyment.

In Imogen's Tea Party, Amy Louise Hill gives us a fun story about a children’s tea party. Who doesn’t love a tea party, especially when your friends come and bring a variety of snacks? It was amusing to see them enjoy their refreshments and then drink their tea from a variety of beautiful teacups. This engaging tale allows parents to discuss diversity and the true meaning of friendship. In addition, having the attendees bring refreshments to share rather than being served the same treat demonstrates how a potluck-style party can be enjoyable while still accommodating individual food allergies or preferences. Also, I liked the idea of cleaning up the party space before everyone departed as that reinforces concepts of tidiness and helpfulness in young children.
