Instinct is the first installment of The Libero Trilogy by James Carter. Leo Wyman's humdrum life turns upside down when an unexpected storm hits his rural hometown of Essex, England, leading to the disappearance of hundreds of inhabitants, including his younger brother, Sam. A few weeks later, Leo starts receiving messages telling him to seek a place named Libero. After he receives a mysterious letter, Leo decides to act upon its instructions, which leads him to the primal world of Libero where instincts overrule all. Alongside his best friends, Leo tries to convince his brother to come home but finds him bound to one of the creators of Libero. To make matters worse, Leo loses one of his best friends during the journey. Now he must risk everything to bring Sam home.
Author James Carter crafts a uniquely imaginative world where absolute freedom comes at a hefty price. The world of Libero feels rich, vibrant, and full of unknown dangers that provide plenty of thrills and action, immersing the reader in the story from start to finish. The plot twists and turns in unexpected ways to keep you on your toes and there was not a single dull moment. I found the characters thoroughly compelling. The banter and chemistry between Leo, Kaira, Dorian, and Bailey provide plenty of entertaining moments, and their friendship forms the bedrock of the narrative. The story ends on a cliffhanger, which makes you look forward to the sequels with eager anticipation. If you're a fantasy lover, I highly recommend Instinct from The Libero Trilogy.
