Keys to the Mermaid's Heart by Kate Porter is the third book in an ongoing series filled with vampires, hunters, mind readers, and more. The story centers around Carly Harden, a young woman working as a waitress at a restaurant owned by Tony Sargento, an elite vampire slayer. Though Carly has found a home and a family among her friends and co-workers, a family heirloom drags her into a battle with the soulless vampires seeking the power to rule over the humans of the world. While she and the rest of the vampire slayers fight to stay alive and defeat their worst enemy, Carly's heart and head struggle with her growing love for Tony. Can she, an ordinary human, stay alive long enough to win the battle and save the love she never thought she'd find?

When I decided to read Keys to the Mermaid's Heart, I wasn't certain what to expect. I had not read the first two books and was a little wary of vampire tales. However, Kate Porter did a great job and delivered an enjoyable adventure that did not require reading the first two books in order to follow it. The characters were fantastic and relatable, especially Carly, and I loved how rich in diversity they were. Each scene had just the right amount of description and made the story feel natural and realistic. As for the plot, it was filled with enough action and suspense to keep me interested and eager to know more. I would definitely recommend this book as a great read and plan on going back to check out books one and two.

Again, I read the entire series and this one was just as good as the first. I will read ALL of Kate Porter's books at this point. She has yet to disappoint! I've also read Secrets in Bethlehem and Black Harvest - two completely different books and way different than this series. Why is she not more popular!!! I couldn't find her in Barnes and Noble but thankfully she is on Amazon.
