The sixth book in the Jax Diamond Mysteries, Killjoy, is a pageturner from start to finish. Written by Gail Meath, it continues the story of Private Investigator Jax Diamond. This time, Jax is investigating the possible murder of a chorus girl at the New Amsterdam Theater at the behest of his Broadway star fiancée Laura Graystone. Soon, Jax finds himself coming across another case involving the apparent suicide of a journalist named Sean Mulligan, who was working on an article about a deceased movie star. Meanwhile, Laura and her friends do their own investigation and somehow find themselves in the police lockup. With odd events circling them and a friend injured, how will Jax and Laura fare in this mystery? Who is the killer? Is there something paranormal involved?

Having read a couple of books from this series so far, I have concluded that author Gail Meath has a knack for crafting absorbing murder mysteries that always keep you on the edge. In Killjoy, it's not only Jax playing the central role but also his fiancée Laura, who has a lot of agency in this plot. Meath has a way with characters that make readers become attached to them and feel invested in their story arcs. Apart from Jax and Laura's relationship, I also enjoyed what their friends Jeanie, Aubrey, Tim, and Carla brought to the tale. The narrative is very well-paced, and you will find it difficult to foresee the unexpected twists and turns of the plot. I honestly couldn't guess who the culprit was until the last few pages. This one is for sleuth mystery aficionados!
