Love Like a Man by Guy Blaise is a relationship guide for American men written from a Frenchman’s perspective. Every topic in the book is suggested by a woman. Chapter titles include Take Initiative, You’re Not Smarter than a Woman, Online Dating Dos and Don’ts, and 43 more. The last chapter is Just the Tips, a list of 50 miscellaneous thoughts to help men attract, and keep, a female partner. Several chapters consist of letters written to Blaise by men, such as one that asks for tips on being a good father after the upcoming birth of the letter writer’s first child. It is well-documented and contains an extended list of endnotes. It’s also illustrated with drawings that depict the current topic. At the beginning of each chapter, there are relationship axioms in French, which are translated into English. Note that the book discusses sex in candid terms and there is a graphic drawing of female genitalia.

Love Like a Man is a terrific book. It could be titled What Every Man Needs to Know about Relating to His Wife or Girlfriend. Guy Blaise makes his points easy to comprehend although the subject is a complex one. The chapters are short, and he writes in simple, easy-to-understand language. The drawings help us recognize ourselves in the discussion at hand, and the axioms highlight important points. Although I have more than 40 years of experience in relationships with women, I had some of my instinctive actions in a relationship confirmed. Every man, no matter how young or old, or how long he’s been in a relationship, will be able to say the same after reading this instructive, enlightening, entertaining guide. Men will also recognize themselves with two responses to it; either, I don’t do that, fortunately, or I do that, regrettably, and I need to change. Either way, all men can, and will, learn from it. I highly recommend it to men everywhere.
