Love Over Pizza by Jen Lowry is a cozy, hopeful holiday romance involving mistaken identity. Two near-strangers from the same tiny town - Pepper Pines and Luca Giovanni - each enter the holiday season with a limited social life and are keeping busy to cope. Pepper’s romance novelist best friend and Luca’s little sister sign the two up for Cupid’s Connection, the anonymous online dating service that forbids matches to reveal identifying info about themselves until the site allows it. Pepper and Luca begrudgingly participate. Meanwhile, Pepper supplements her teaching holiday break with a job at Luca’s pizzeria, having no idea that her recent match - Mr. Amore - is the new boss she can’t stand. Luca barely notices Pepper, but begins to develop feelings for Pizzagirl, her Cupid’s Connection alter ego. Filled with delightful holiday moments, memorable characters, and the perfect balance of comedy and tenderness, this is a Southern love story worth picking up.

If you like feel-good holiday romances, Love Over Pizza is for you. Jen Lowry knows how to balance the beloved comedy of errors formula with original twists and serious moments, with sweet couplings that make the reader gush. I wish I could visit this town and meet the people in it. As the author mentions, there is a gentle Christian overlay in the novel. We see this through characters who pray for one another, ponder heaven and the Christian meaning of family, no profanities, and nothing beyond tender kisses. I loved this, but I also believe it is gentle enough not to alienate readers of other faiths. Lowry had me charmed and there is also a surprise recipe at the back of the book. I will be looking out for more romances by her in the future!
