Author Biography

Do to a lot of traveling in my job I listened to books on tape and CD. A couple of years prior to my retiring I wanted something to do to try and keep my mind active and keep my typing skills up so I decided to try my hand at writing a book. I had always leaned to detective/mystery stories but did not have a theme until one day I heard the revision of the country and western song Ol Red sung by Blake Shelton and that is how I came up with the theme for my first published book. I am currently working on a sequel with the same main detective character.

Love Put Me In: Love Got Me Out by James H Blurton is an across-the-years thriller. Billy had been sent to prison in Southern Georgia during the 1930s for murdering Luke Hampton, but he didn’t do it. He spent his prison time training their tracking hounds and was drawn to one in particular – Ole Red. With the hound’s help, Billy escaped and headed to Northern Idaho, where he lived looking over his shoulder and wondering who the real murderer was. He finally told his grandson Trey, who was a retired detective. Trey decided to help him, but he got more than he expected. His investigations uncovered decades-long corruption in Georgia, but could he find the real murderer and what was the connection to his grandfather, Bill?

Love Put Me In: Love Got Me Out by James H Blurton is a thought-provoking novel about crime, corruption, and injustice. This is a balanced account, well-paced but with plenty of action and some great characters. It spans decades, telling the original story of how the protagonist was wrongfully jailed, followed by a description of the subsequent investigation into the murder. It is a thrilling story, well-written, and the characters are real people that you get to know well. Each has a personality that shines through and has a part to play in a fascinating tale that gives some insight into injustice and unfair convictions – both now and back in the early part of the previous century. I guarantee that you’ll also fall in love with Ole Red. It’s a story of courage, too, and is recommended reading for anyone who likes crime thrillers with a difference.

Love Put Me In: Love Got Me Out is a thriller by James H. Blurton. Billy Bersha married Sarah, the daughter of the banker from Hardwood, but her family preferred Luke, the lumber mill owner's son. Because of an argument between Luke and Billy, Sarah was shot and died in Billy’s arms. Billy wanted to shoot Luke but found him stabbed to death in the woods and was charged with his murder. Billy was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for the killing of Luke Hampton. Billy taught the warden's tracking hounds during his first years in jail, and with the aid of Ole Red, his favorite hound, he managed to escape and travel to northern Idaho. After many years, Billy told his grandson Trey, a retired detective, about his past and the murder.

Love Put Me In: Love Got Me Out by James H. Blurton is a mixture of crime and mystery. It was a roller coaster ride of murder, love, and corruption. The story was fast-paced and full of action. I was intrigued by the riddle and secrets of Hardwood. I enjoyed the detective work by Trey and tried to figure out who had killed Luke and framed Billy. With all the twists and turns, I never knew what would happen next. I was captivated by Billy and Sarah’s love story from the beginning. I appreciated that Billy fought for their love, and I empathized with him during his prison time. The story is brilliantly written, and for me, it was a lesson in forgiveness. It exceeded my expectations by far.

Trey is in Hardwood, Georgia, to find out what happened to his grandfather and if anyone is still looking for him. Soon, he finds out that the small town has many secrets. With the help of Janice and Jack, will he be able to solve the mysteries of Hardwood? Billy was raised in Hardwood. Many people in this small town relied on the sawmill owned by the Hampton family for employment. Billy falls in love with Sarah, and after high school graduation, they get married despite her family's disapproval and disown her. The story of a sawmill boy marrying a rich guy's daughter doesn't go down well with many people, so convicting Billy for the murder was easy. Love Put Me In: Love Got Me Out by James H. Burton was an interesting read, and I was hooked from the first chapter to the last. One of the few things that caught my attention, other than the flawlessly flowing plotline, was the values and morals espoused in the book, which made it entertaining and informative. It was inspiring to read about the character of Billy, who, despite great injustice, remains a good person. The book is also narrated at a steady pace with well-developed characters that give form to this amazing story. The vivid descriptions of events and emotions also contributed significantly to making this a page-turner. James also utilized suspense to significant effect. I cannot wait to read something else from this talented author.
