Mobster For Hire is a work of action and realistic fiction penned by author R. J. Matthews. Written for adults due to its thematic content, coarse language, and graphic violence, this intense novel is filled with the thrills and spills of the realities of life with the mob. Marty is our central figure, for whom life has always been a game of chance. Marty considers himself a smart gambler with an eye for good odds, so when he has the chance to become a mobster for hire, he takes it, figuring it’s a good deal. But what follows is a life of twists and turns he didn’t account for, and an action-packed tale filled with danger, drama, and death.
Author R. J. Matthews does a really great job of centering readers right at the heart of mobster action and danger throughout this exciting novel. I liked the sense of cinematic realism in the ways in which the mobsters speak to one another and bring Marty into the fold; it reminded me of a lot of the old mafia moves like The Godfather, a real sense of enjoyment and casual attitude toward what they do. And when things get serious, the narrative really takes off with a great plot that is sure to engross readers through some of the murkier and more grisly moments of the plot. Overall, Mobster For Hire ticks all the boxes of a successful gangster action-adventure, and is highly recommended for fans of the genre.
