In the future, the United States is under the control of religious extremists. They are determined to bend the will of the world to their beliefs, even if it takes a nuclear war to do it. Part of their plan is to control or destroy all the mutants they consider an abomination to God. That is unacceptable for one strong young woman. Using the time machine she developed, she journeys to the past to affect a change in the future. Clothed with futuristic combat gear she becomes the Monitor, a crime fighter bringing wrong-doers to justice in an attempt to evoke needed changes.

A small criminal group of mutants devise a plan to change things and make mutants the true power brokers. One mutant girl realizes that there is something wrong with the plan and decides that they have to be stopped. Can she do it and can the Monitor actually change the future? More importantly, if the future is changed, is it a change for the better.

I found "Monitor" to be a well written and engaging story. The setting for the story was thought provoking; could a future like that actually happen? The plot contained a planned, logical series of events... a good beginning, middle, and end. However, it is a long book and with the extensive dialog it did drag just a touch in the middle. The characters were well defined and the dialog was good as well. Overall, SciFi fans will find "Monitor" to be a great addition to their SciFi library.
