Inspector Hillary Greene was planning to retire in three weeks when her superiors, most likely to stall or keep her on the force and convince her to stay, handed her a high profile murder case. But, Hillary will not be dissuaded from her decision and although her impending retirement is coming nearer she will not stop until she uncovers the killer. As she begins to investigate she comes across Frank Wells the security guard and formerly on the force whose presence she does not relish. His remarks to her, although rude and cutting do not seem to make a dent in the way she investigates the murder. Noticing some inconsistencies in his behavior as well as his statement to her Hillary has just begun her investigation. Added into the mix is the owner of the shoe shop who appears nervous and seems to be hiding something too. Harry Welles knows about his wife’s affair with the victim. Speaking with him sheds little light on the murder. Speaking with the victim’s ex-wife Hillary sees that there is definitely no love lost and that Michael Ivers had many affairs with some of the women where he worked as under manager of a newspaper and other women as well. Added into the mix is HQ Superintendant Brian Vane who is out to bring Hillary and DI Janine Mallow down. Janine killed her husband’s murderer and he thinks Hillary helped to cover up the truth. But, Hillary is smart, sharp and when Janine approaches her about her fears of having the truth about the weapon revealed, Hillary states she has it under control. What that means still remains to be seen.

Follow the investigation along with DI Gemma Fordham and Mark Chang as Hillary Greene races the clock to find a murderer before she retires. Time is running out and Hillary must unmask a killer. Mark Chang is working overtime to find out just what Frank Ross is really up to and who is stealing from the yard. What he learns will definitely surprise not only the reader but the owner of the yard as well. Just who killed Michael Ivers you will have to read for yourself. How does Hillary deal with her boss in order to keep Janine under the radar and herself out of jail? What will be end result be? The starling ending will definitely keep you guessing as to where Hillary winds up next and if she really does retire.

Starling ending! Fast paced, filled with character descriptions that are vivid and clear making it easy for the reader to not only follow the events but their thoughts and actions too. Faith Martin sets the stage for more than just a murder mystery. Let’s hope she decides to bring our Detective Inspector back for another case. Real life incidents that could change the way many women deal with infidelity and the end result.
