Oaths of Blood is a work of fiction in the historical fiction, action, and fantasy subgenres, and is the opening novel in the Oaths of Blood Saga. The work is best suited to mature teen and adult audiences owing to sexual references and some scenes of moderate violence. Penned by author Logan D. Irons, this gripping tale is set during the Crusades, where mercenary captain Robert Cutnose finds himself embroiled in a shadowy conflict between immortal forces. As the armies of Christendom march toward Jerusalem in 1099, Cutnose is thrust into a desperate siege that leads to a savage attack, leaving him on the brink of death. Rescued by a secretive group of warriors, Cutnose discovers he is now part of an ancient war between the Order and the Hunted, driven by the pursuit of powerful relics. With his newfound immortality, Cutnose must track down his assailant and navigate the treacherous landscape of Noctis Bellum.

Author Logan D. Irons has penned a gorgeously complex and detailed novel that combines historical elements with fantastical elements, creating a rich and immersive setting that strikes the perfect balance between the authentic and the fantastical. The character of Robert Cutnose is compelling and multifaceted, grappling with his newfound immortality and the weight of his oaths amidst the chaos of war. The close narrative used to bring him to life only intensifies as we get more and more invested in his many struggles. The narrative is fast-paced and filled with twists and turns that felt surprising, but always in keeping with the internal logic of the worldbuilding, keeping me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Irons' prose is evocative and atmospheric, painting vivid images of battlefields and shadowy landscapes with excellent lexical choices that perfectly match the atmosphere of the scenes to the emotional mood of the characters. Overall, I would certainly recommend Oaths of Blood as a thrilling and action-packed read that will appeal to fans of gritty historical fantasy everywhere.
