Author Biography

Daymel Garcia is a first-time children's book author from Orlando, Florida, and a Cuban immigrant. Transitioning from game development to writing children's literature, Daymel's debut book, "Onion Boy," celebrates the importance of self-esteem when faced with the negativity of those around us. His stories reflect his own journey of learning self-love and self-acceptance at a later age. Filled with quirky characters, and unique perspectives Daymel advocates for diversity in children's literature. Outside of writing, he enjoys volleyball and taking dance classes. Excited to spread his message, Daymel looks forward to continuing his journey as a children's book author.

Onion Boy and the Backyard Bully is a children's picture storybook written and illustrated by Daymel J Garcia. The story follows Onion Boy, a young, energetic, and curious rebel who loves running around in people's backyards. One day, while exploring a pile of metals and plastics, he discovers a box that instantly captures his attention. Upon closer inspection, the box lights up and speaks to him. Unfortunately, what the box says to little Onion Boy makes him feel stupid, and he runs away in tears. However, with encouragement from a friend, Onion Boy gains the courage to confront the mysterious box and find out why it was mean to him.

Onion Boy and the Backyard Bully is a heartwarming story that teaches children about compassion and friendship while also exploring themes of self-love, confidence, courage, and adventure. Onion Boy is a relatable character that many young readers will identify with. Getting bullied is tough, but Onion Boy shows that standing up for yourself and others is formidable. The story promotes important values and will help children navigate similar challenges. Daymel J Garcia does an excellent job of conveying the messages in this book, including uplifting words of affirmation and the message that even bullies have their own problems and should not be treated horribly. This message is unique and makes the book stand out. In addition to the profound lessons, the colorful illustrations perfectly correspond with the story and clearly show the characters and the environment. Overall, it is a must-read because it has vital lessons and an entertaining story.
