In Payne Avenue, a psychological thriller by M.T. Bartone, Eddie Bracchio killed a man so his boss sent him to his hometown of St. Paul to make amends. Eddie moved into the Payne Avenue neighborhood, where his boss's sister-in-law's house was being shot at by some punks. Kate De Luca was happily married to Marco and worked as a real estate agent. Kate and Marco were having financial difficulties, but her prospects as a real estate agent improved when she got a call from Eddie. Eddie was known for being a law-abiding businessman, despite his involvement in criminal activity. Due to his obsession with Kate, Eddie recruited Marco as his driver, which would benefit both Marco and Kate financially. However, Kate's life took a drastic turn when Marco decided he no longer wanted to be involved in Eddie's illegal activities.

Payne Avenue by M.T. Bartone is a roller coaster of obsession, murder, crime, and revenge. This page-turner had me hooked from the first page. The story is fast-paced and jam-packed with action, with never a dull moment. The events were described in detail and left nothing out for the reader. The characters were authentic and believable, and they were introduced with their backgrounds, so it was easy to get to know them. The contrast between Eddie and his ties to the Italian mafia and Kate and her devoted family was skillfully interwoven with the plot. I could relate to Kate and her emotions, and at times the story was very sad. The story exceeded my expectations and was expertly written.
