Perfect by Kiri Jorgensen is a charming middle-grade novel that follows the main character Sal, a girl with OCD searching for the perfect snowflake, and her mission to catch the phone thief plaguing her school. When Sal is invited to attend the weather club at school, she only does it for the chance to photograph snowflakes, and she only participates because she makes a deal with her dad. However, she begins to befriend the other members and soon rethinks how she has been living. But, the thefts of cell phones and electronics at her school continue to escalate, and it isn’t long before Sal is accused of being the thief. Can she and the rest of the weather club stop the real thief?

Perfect by Kiri Jorgensen is an absolute must-read with complex, likable characters and an intriguing plot. Sal is very well-developed and feels like a real person, which helps to draw the reader into the story and her world. She is a character who readers will root for as she tries new things, even if it’s hard for her, and readers will feel inspired to do the same. The book is very well written, and I liked that the narration describes things that Sal would notice, like how many steps it is to her science class and how Sameer has asymmetrical ears, as it helped me to get to know Sal and the way she thinks better. The story was very interesting, and I liked the way the mystery of the phone thief builds up while Sal is more focused on snowflakes and the weather club. The scene in which they set a trap for the thief is very exciting, suspenseful, and satisfying, and I loved that all the weather club members could use their talents. I learned a lot about snowflake structures and the process of photographing them from this book, and now I want to try it myself. The book is a perfect read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
