Pieces of Eight: A Story of Sex & Love, Trust & Betrayal by Michael Reed McLaughlin is an adventure story set against the backdrop of the sea. Jack O'Connor, along with Portia Pennington and Sandy Sequoia, go in search of sunken pirate treasure together. Each one of them holds a clue which will help them locate the treasure. While Jack O'Connor has a piece of eight as his clue, the two women also hold vital clues that will lead them to the treasure. To work together they have to trust and believe in each other. Will they work together and succeed in finding the sunken treasure? Will this treasure be the answer to their financial problems?
The ocean, pirates, and sunken treasure make it a readable story. Readers will get hooked because there is so much adventure happening in the story. The three characters - Jack, Portia and Sandy - are likeable people and their characters have been developed to do justice to the plot. Nautical themes have a different vibe to them. There is always something mysterious when it comes to the ocean and this book and the sunken treasure highlight that aspect. The scenes are descriptive, adding to the visual aspect of the scenes. The suspense of Pieces of Eight will keep readers glued to the book till the end. An engaging read.
