PushBack: Selected Poems of Resistance by Richard L Rose is a fascinating collection of poems that will make readers contemplate the nuances, intricacies, and complexities of life. The wonderful imagery, metaphors, and juxtapositions will offer vivid sketches of the profundities that nature offers us. The free verses, rhyme schemes, quatrains, and other types of poems in the book give glimpses of society, human suffering, and social injustices faced in an honest and unapologetic manner, pulling readers into the collection to feel the universal experience along with the personal experience of the poet.

Divided into three sections, Instruct the Grieving Heart, Equalize Mental Static, and Push Back, the poems are deep, insightful, and thought-provoking. All the poems have a deeper meaning to them, and my personal favorite in the collection would be 'Collected Words for a Memorial Service' where the poet highlights the transience of everything and stresses the importance of believing in Christ, and walking the divine path. This collection of resistance poems also reveals the poet's problems when it comes to going with something, and the action he takes is by channeling through his poems. While some of the poems are crisp and rational, others are rich in imagery, and the author's grasp of language and emotions in expressing his thoughts and emotions is excellent. It is a fine collection and it is quite admirable that Richard L Rose has used poetry to exhibit his worries, agonies, dilemmas, light and darkness, and problems, enabling readers to experience the energies of resistance, criticism, and injustices in a poetic way.
