If you are looking for a fun, fact-filled book that will give you ideas of non-traditional careers, then Quirky Careers & Offbeat Occupations of the Past, Present, and Future by Marianne Jennings is the book for you. Each job includes information about the job, followed by fun facts, and where possible, what it would currently pay. For instance, a fun fact under Butterfly Farmer is that butterflies taste with their feet. If traditional careers are not appealing to you, one of the jobs included by Marianne might just suit your fancy. Maybe you would like to be a cryptozoologist and finally find where Bigfoot resides. There are all sorts of jobs including extremely gross jobs like sewer divers. Yes, sewer diver is exactly what it sounds like. Even if you have the most fantastic career and are completely satisfied, you will enjoy reading this delightful book. Think about all the trivia you can share and entertain your friends with.

Everyone has heard of storm chasers, but have you heard of “resurrectionists,” (better known as “body snatchers”)? Marianne Jennings takes you on a journey of all types of careers (some no longer exist) in Quirky Careers & Offbeat Occupations of the Past, Present, and Future. Marianne writes in a very intriguing manner that makes this book a page-turner that you won’t want to put down. My wife’s aunt had her pet dog stuffed and kept it in its own bedroom. Pet taxidermist is one of the strange jobs included in this book. Some of the jobs discussed no longer exist, but learning about them here adds to the enjoyment. I highly recommend this book for the sheer fun of reading about the strange and wonderful world of offbeat and quirky careers.

Quirky Careers & Offbeat Occupations of the Past, Present, and Future Exploring Weird, Wacky, and Interesting Jobs You Never Knew Existed by Marianne Jennings is a non-fiction book about various occupations. She talks about all kinds of weird and fascinating jobs, anything from working with AI to zombies. She has fun facts about each job, such as how it got its name. The author even tells us what the salary was and what it would be today. She includes a quiz at the end and a way for you to send her any weird job ideas.

I thought that Quirky Careers & Offbeat Occupations of the Past, Present, and Future by Marianne Jennings was a fascinating read. I loved the format she used; it made it easier to read. She was very good at being descriptive, albeit maybe too descriptive at times. I thought the fun fact about butterflies was creepy and cool at the same time. If you're a fan of Danny Glover and James Brown, like I am, you will find an intriguing fact about them. My favorite was the one about Human Computers. She uses one of my favorite books called Hidden Treasures which discusses how women worked as computers for NASA. The salary info was fascinating. I loved that Marianne showed how it would be today, with some of the jobs from the past. I was surprised that some jobs didn't pay that much. I loved the quiz at the end to see how much you remembered. I admit, I got a couple of answers wrong. If you love history, you will find this book quite fascinating. If you are an entrepreneur, you might just find an idea for a career. It's a quick and easy read and will have you laughing and pondering.

People have always been able to adapt to change. This means that we can adjust to new situations and circumstances. Over time, we have seen the disappearance of some professions due to advances in technology, entertainment, and art, but new ones have emerged. However, there are also unusual careers that continue to thrive. Marianne Jennings has compiled this information in Quirky Careers & Offbeat Occupations of the Past, Present, and Future. She organizes the jobs into different categories and provides details such as salary estimates and fun facts. In this way, she tells us about jobs related to travel, nature, occupations of the past, and new forms of entertainment, offering a wide variety of information. Without a doubt, this book is a fun way to learn about general culture.

I liked the descriptions offered by Marianne Jennings because they are concrete, and when she gives examples, she is clear. All the jobs she mentions are interesting, but one that particularly caught my attention is that of a shark tank cleaner because she explains that these people even learn to distinguish sharks by their personality. Details like this make for entertaining reading and broaden our understanding of the world of history, technology, economics, and culture. I also enjoyed learning about some of the occupations of the past because it allows one to appreciate the wonders of today's world, where many things have been made easier for us. The content is simple and has a few interesting pictures. However, with the descriptions, it is easy to visualize the variety of jobs described. Quirky Careers & Offbeat Occupations of the Past, Present, and Future will allow you to see the world of work in a new way.
