Author Biography

Rita M. Boehm’s childhood writing aspirations resurfaced when she considered retirement from a successful career in Contract Management. Career moves had taken her from New York to Colorado to suburban Maryland, near Washington D.C. — all great locations for story lines.

To date, Rita has published 7 books across a variety of genres: romantic suspense, cozy mystery, domestic thriller, WWII Nonfiction, and a labor-of-love children’s picture book, BLUEBIRDS IN THE GARDEN, which received the 2019 Best Children’s Book award from the Florida Writers Association.

Her most recent book, THE PRICE OF REVENGE, is an exciting, multi-award-winning domestic thriller at least partially inspired by the true story of a middle-aged police sergeant in Illinois whose considerably younger third wife went missing - and has never been found. He was finally convicted of killing his second wife. REVENGE chronicles the story of a young woman who, in her attempt to survive a similar situation , spends 20 years on the run until a final confrontation with her past.

Now living in The Villages, Florida, when she’s not writing, Rita enjoys gardening, golf, yoga, and most especially, riding her dressage horse, Kosi.

Second Chances: A Woman's Story of Survival is a work of fiction in the suspense, women’s fiction, and interpersonal drama subgenres, and is the opening novel of a trilogy. The work is best suited to the general adult reading audience. Penned by author Rita Mary Boehm, the plot follows Lindsay Talbot's harrowing journey after one wrong choice alters her life irrevocably. At a cocktail party, she falls victim to a charming man who drugs her champagne, leading her to wake up on a distant tropical island. For two years, Lindsay is held captive by an enigmatic captor, her life dictated by his whims and desires as she traverses continents. The questions of 'Why her?' and 'Who is he?' linger as Lindsay grapples with shocking truths, complicated love, and heart-breaking loss, all while contemplating the uncertain future that comes with second chances.

Author Rita Mary Boehm has crafted a strong narrative to take us through Lindsay Talbot's arduous journey, plunging readers into the depths of her despair and resilience with a great sense of balance and emotional arc. The initial allure of the handsome stranger swiftly transforms into a nightmare as Lindsay navigates the complexities of captivity and the unpredictable behavior of her captor, and readers will have their hearts in their mouths at every moment right there beside her. The well-written narrative unfolds with suspense and tension as Lindsay confronts the harsh realities of her situation while clinging to the hope of escape and redemption, and the psychological attention to detail is second to none. Boehm's portrayal of Lindsay's emotional turmoil and her quest for freedom is both poignant and riveting, with stellar dialogue and strong atmospheric choices to heighten the mood. Overall, Second Chances is a compelling exploration of survival and sacrifice that I would certainly recommend for women’s fiction readers everywhere.

Carrie Holstead lives a simple life with her companion, a loving cat, Minnie. While at an art gallery cocktail party, Carrie is approached by a handsome and mysterious man. Following some flirtation and charming conversation, Carrie is mesmerized and attracted to the worldly stranger until she awakens on a tropical private island in a complete state of confusion. Rita Mary Boehm's Second Chances tells the story of Carrie's physical journey, while held captive without explanation, from Mexico to Saudi Arabia to Australia over the next two years. At the same time, it describes Carrie's emotional journey as she meets some beautiful friends and learns of long-buried secret truths about her captor and eventually herself.

In Second Chances: A Woman's Story of Survival, Rita Mary Boehm has created a story of intrigue and suspense as we watch a most relatable woman in the most unrelatable circumstances. With vivid descriptions of the geography and cultures of the lands visited, Boehm masters a cinematic vision. I was drawn in by the need to uncover the secret pasts and motivations of these strongly developed and interesting characters and get to the truth of how it all fits together. Boehm's writing is fluid and captivating with a flair for sensitivity. There is enough international intrigue and life-and-death circumstances to appeal to an action lover while keeping enough emotion and passion to fulfill the demands of a cozy romance. With each section placing the characters in a strange new land with emerging feelings, the suspense builds, making the book extremely difficult to put down. An amazing read!

Rita M. Boehm brings us suspenseful romance in Second Chances: A Woman’s Story of Survival. Introverted Carrie Holstead lives in Washington, D.C. Invited to an evening at an art gallery, she finds an attractive, charming man staring at her. After striking up a flirtatious conversation, he drugs her drink, and she wakes up in a strange bed on a remote island. When this handsome kidnapper forces her to accept a new name in isolated captivity, one important question remains unanswered: Why her? Her captor keeps his distance while providing a life of luxury. What follows is a forced life of wealth for the new Lindsay Talbot, always moving from somewhere in Mexico to Saudi Arabia and Australia, all without a clue as to why. Author Rita M. Boehm has created an intense and riveting romance novel that will leave you breathless. With a sumptuous bouquet of colors, tastes, smells, and sounds, all the senses are stimulated by an intriguing narrative and intense dialogue. Written in the first-person, the reader is privy to the absolute kaleidoscope of emotions of the protagonist. Character descriptions are vivid, and you will fall in love with all of them. With an underlying theme of secrecy, the first book in this trilogy will have you unable to put it down. It's not recommended for younger readers due to some of the sexual content, but I gladly encourage anyone who loves a good romance novel to read Second Chances and I eagerly look forward to the next novel.
