In Joe Woods' book, Secrets of the Spiral Tower, there is nothing worse than being accused of something you didn’t do, but when someone is accused of murdering a girlfriend, one has to wonder how that person can possibly deal with the aftermath or live with the guilt if responsible. That is exactly the case of grieving Connor, whose ex-girlfriend Willow Kingston McKenzie was brutally murdered and her case left unsolved. Five years after her disappearance, Willow’s car is discovered in the Mississippi River and brought to the surface. Connor can barely stand it, wallowing in grief, caught up in the past and reflecting over it. Now as the case heats up, the mystery only deepens as more than one body is discovered in the auto. But is Connor really as innocent as he seems or maybe he is just good at keeping his tainted secrets. One thing is for sure, Willow’s cousin Woody has his suspicions about Connor and is pretty vocal about it and determined to discover the truth. But perhaps there is more than one truth to this twisted tale.

Secrets of the Spiral Tower takes readers through the up and down relationship between Connor and Willow and the past secrets they shared once upon a time. The author does a good job of keeping you guessing over who killed Willow and the senseless reasoning. Layer after layer of Connor’s past with Willow is revealed as well as the flaws in his otherwise easy-going character. Willow is a likable character despite dying with her secrets. Her life was cut short way before her time, as well as the other victims found in this tale. All in all, Joe Woods has created a fascinating, tragic story with an awesome setting.
