Seven Tears in the Sea by Adrienne Moore is the perfect blend of mythology with suspense for fans of these genres. Three generations of selkies, three sets of trials, and each had a date with destiny. It all began with Silas, an orphaned selkie who returned to his human form, looking for something. He had a daughter named Alise, who had her issues. She married a man named Douglas, who had no idea she was a mythical being, but Elliot did. Elliot was obsessed with her and would not stop until he stole her sealskin. Ellie, Alise’s daughter, was in big trouble. She needed to find her sealskin, or else she would die. All three had a journey to cover and a quest to overcome! Would they succeed?

I love stories with a basis in mythology. Seven Tears in the Sea was everything I wanted and so much more. I was transported into the pages and practically inhaled the story. I loved Alise and Ellie. The mother and daughter were not in a similar situation, but their reactions were sometimes similar. Alise was terrified of what would happen if Elliot got hold of her sealskin and even more frightened if her husband found out about her real self. Ellie was in a different situation, but the danger was equally real. Her sealskin directly affected her life, and she needed it to survive. Silas was suffering the most and was not doing well mentally or emotionally. His story resonated with me, and I immediately connected with him. The pace was perfect, and the multiple POVs were remarkably well done. I was immersed in their stories. Author Adrienne Moore ensured her readers were not going anywhere until they finished this novel. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mythology.

First of all I am not a reader of fiction. I read approximately one fiction book every decade at the behest of others. But this one might be the one that converted me into a regular fiction reader. I even kept my husband enthralled by sharing updates with him every few pages and on a long car trip my sister-in-law needed to know what was happening next! I was able to enter readily into this world and believe what was happening in it. I cared about the characters and wondered what they might decide to do next.
