Shine, My Amazing Girl centers on the lives of several girls at a school, as the author, Emma Meyer, outlines their difficulties and the way they meet each challenge. Caroline tries to find a new social group after her brother has a skateboarding accident. She believes everyone at the skate park only interacts with her because of her brother. Camila loves younger children and hopes to babysit her three-year-old neighbor one day, but when the opportunity to prove herself as a worthy babysitter seems to fail, she must draw on her inner talents to succeed. In addition, six other related stories illustrate common problems and lessons that showcase good character and solid values.

Emma Meyer has written an important book for young girls, including notes at the end of each chapter, highlighting her points with positive speech. While supporting girls in trying new things, Meyer emphasizes the importance of authenticity. The book shows themes of friendship, finding balance, taking a stand against bullying, and self-awareness, while addressing common problems for pre-teens and young teens, and focusing on inner beauty over outer appearance. Meyer encourages transparency and honesty to gain insight and experience, and the stories are interconnected, showing how a person may give advice even if they are having their own troubles in another area. A free audiobook is available with a purchase, and educators and caregivers can feel confident giving Shine, My Amazing Girl to readers as they are sharing a book that will encourage self-esteem and confidence.
