In a great new book by author NuFaShe, Son of a Meddah is a wonderful read that explores a time period that many might not be familiar with, the time of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Our protagonist has a name that means "easy," but it seems like Sahl's life is anything but that. Before he was even thirteen years old, he's been through an earthquake, his country's defeat in a battle in the Balkans, in which his father was seriously injured, and an assassination attempt on the sultan. Sahl pretty much feels like he's seen just about everything, but when he finds the person that the sultan is blaming for the toppling of the Empire hiding in his caravan, for once, he's not quite sure what to expect next.

I so enjoyed Son of a Meddah. Author NuFaShe has done an absolutely amazing job in writing a story that will have readers glued to the pages from start to finish. The scenes are so well drawn that readers will feel as if they've slipped into the stories themselves, and the characters are ones that you'll care about, relate to, and continue to think of long after the story is done. If that isn't a hallmark of a great writer, I'm not sure what is. Any reader who loves historical fiction should absolutely pick up this book. I highly recommend Son of a Meddah and will be keeping an eye out for any new work released by author NuFaShe. If it's anything like this, it will definitely be one to add to my must-read list!
