The First Annual Gala Maze-a-thon was a race with each rider on the back of a calpa. The first one across the finish line would win the race. Talee and her calpa called Nola were ready for the race. Among the other competitors was a boy with a calpa twice the size of Nola, and Talee’s classmate who had been training hard claimed to have a fast calpa. Talee’s parents and her friend Cora had turned up to watch and cheer for her. However, when the starter says “Go”, everyone else takes off except for Talee and Nola. Talee is surprised because apart from having trained for the race, Nola loved puzzles. What will Talee do and can she still win? Find out more in Talee and the Maze-a-thon Race by Jacquitta A. McManus.

Talee and the Maze-a-thon Race by Jacquitta A. McManus will appeal to lovers of children's adventure and fantasy stories. Featuring an enchanting plot, Jacquitta unfolds the tale using short chapters that give the story a beautiful flow. I loved the illustrations accompanying the text as these fuelled my imagination as well as adding color to the story. The characters are wonderfully developed, with each of their qualities and emotions well brought out. Talee is a compassionate, hardworking, and confident girl with an intelligent mind. Through Talee’s experiences in the race, children will learn the importance of being brave, confident, honest, how to make smart choices, and never giving up. There is suspense, adventure, action, and thrills in this book.
