That's My Name! Say it Right! by Adela Villalpando is a traditional alphabet book. The unique aspect of this ABC book is that each letter highlights a child's name and is followed by a pronunciation key. Each child interacts with something that begins with the same letter as their name. An example is "Elena (el-ay-nuh) is sitting next to an elephant." Children who don't often find their names in picture books will be delighted not only to see their names but also to hear them being pronounced correctly. There is a brief explanation at the end of the story about how some names often change a bit between the male and female versions.

That's My Name! Say it Right! is a simple yet helpful alphabet book. Most people want to hear their names pronounced correctly. Adela Villalpando has done a quality job of incorporating names that are common in a wide variety of cultures. By emphasizing correct pronunciation, she has encouraged kids to listen as their classmates are introduced to them. The illustrations by Rodolfo Villalpando are colorful, with bold lines and easily identifiable objects. While some of the names may be unfamiliar to kids, they will absolutely be able to recognize the other items in the pictures. In addition to functioning as a traditional ABC book, the simple text and clear picture clues make it a satisfying beginning reader. That's My Name! Say it Right! is a charming book for early educators to read to their young students as they begin the new school year.
