A demon who has waited for a hundred years, planning an unthinkable evil, is about to unleash his deadly powers into the city and to submerge it in utter darkness. White witch Sage Mathews, a woman with unspeakable gifts, and the very person connected to an ancient prophecy, could be the next victim of the devil-inhabited serial killer. Detective Sergeant Ethan Blade must catch the killer before he kills again, but can he be vigilant enough when he has fallen so deeply in love with the woman he should be protecting? There is only one way to defeat the demon, and Ethan and Sage must take that perilous route.

The Alchemist's Son is book 2 in the Beyond the Grave Series by Athena Daniels, a thrilling read that combines different genres into one. This is your book if you love mystery, paranormal, and thrillers, and no matter your genre, you’ll find the read exciting. From start to finish, the smooth writing, the intoxicating story, and the compelling characters will hold the reader enthralled and utterly captivated. Guess all you can, but the plot reads like a devil’s trap, a highly creative work of great imagination.

Readers will be drawn to the white witch Sage and her journey towards the truth. The sense of danger that permeates this book is also very intoxicating. The detective and the witch are a great pair, flawed, but it is in their vulnerability that the conflict heightens until it reaches its climax. The Alchemist's Son by Athena Daniels is brilliant, entertaining, and absorbing in an insane sort of way.

In The Alchemist's Son by Athena Daniels, Sage Matthews and Ethan Blade continue the supernatural adventures begun in The Seer’s Daughter, in which a small Australian town has come under a demonic influence. It's one that crops up every hundred years, and unless the demon is banished, chaos will reign. After the death of her grandmother, white witch Sage is an integral part of the prophecy that has the potential to finally get rid of the demon, once and for all. But she hardly knows anything about the prophecy and is only just coming into her powers. Time is running out and the situation grows more deadly as more twisted events occur, ancestors plague the town, dark minions are raised, and rumors emerge that the government is considering wiping out the town altogether. Just as they did one hundred years ago. Sage and Ethan race against the clock to prevent hell on earth from being unleashed. But it turns out to be harder than she first imagined. She knows that she is the "seer’s daughter" of the prophecy, but who is the alchemist’s son, and will she be able to find him before it's too late?

The Alchemist's Son by Athena Daniels is a fast paced and engaging read. Even though I didn't read the first book, The Seer’s Daughter, I didn't have any trouble figuring out the plot or learning about the characters. Daniels has an easy, flowing writing style that's perfectly suited for the urban fantasy genre. I did wish the supernatural parts were more creative, as the good guys were clearly sweet, and I half expected the bad guys to twirl their mustaches whenever they spoke, but the plot was engaging enough to keep my attention. Fans of The Seer’s Daughter will love the sizzle that goes on between Ethan and Sage, and how their relationship grows as the novel progresses. A nice choice for any fan of urban fantasy.

The Alchemist's Son (Beyond the Grave Series, #Two) is the thrilling sequel about the fulfillment of a hundred-year-old prophecy. Sage Matthews has six days to prepare to fight a Master demon and keep the demons from Hell entering earth's realm. With no experience and still recuperating from the repercussions of her encounter with a serial killer, Sage is struggling against supernatural forces while trying to learn everything she needs to know about the ritual she has to perform. Her lover, Detective Sergeant Ethan Blade, is with the Homicide Squad of the South Australian Police Force and leader of Taipan, his special unit. Taipan is working around the clock to protect Sage while she fulfills her destiny and helps Ethan hunt down the serial killer. Meanwhile, a growing dark aura of energy is hovering over the town, and violence is infiltrating its inhabitants. Evil is escalating and murders are multiplying. With the confrontation a few days away, Sage and her circle continue preparing and gathering the crucial materials needed. An alarming complication arises when they discover they're missing one essential key; the Alchemist's Son. This is a frightening dilemma as no one has a clue to his identity. Will they find the Alchemist's Son or will evil prevail?

The Alchemist's Son is the sequel to The Seer's Daughter. If you were looking for a mind-blowing conclusion to Sage and Ethan's journey, then you'll find it in this book. The book takes you on a blood tingling ride from the very beginning until the final word. This is not a book for anyone under the age of eighteen as it contains profanity and several very sexually intimate scenes, one with a touch of violence. The Alchemist's Son is not a standalone book. To get the most from the story, one should read The Seer's Daughter first, otherwise it is a bit confusing. Despite that fact, it was still good!
