Every family is different, just like every person is different. Ambre Williams shares how families are different yet similar in The Best Thing Is You. While this children’s picture book helps youngsters understand the importance of family, it also shows that all families are equally important. Each family has its own story, but all families start with a dream. Even if making a family requires special doctors or a surrogate mother, each is important. Children should understand that God created them and that they are loved. The child may have one or two parents, but they are still special. Their day may be sunny or cloudy, but their parents still love them. As your child learns the differences between families and individuals, they will also learn their importance.

Nicole Steffes illustrated The Best Thing Is You in a way that enhances the message of the story. This simple book will help children understand that no matter what course the family took to come into existence, the child is loved and the best thing ever. God takes special care in creating every child. Ambre Wiliams shares this as a way to help build a child’s self-esteem. As children learn their importance, their self-confidence will soar, and they will be successful no matter where life takes them. Take time to read this book with and to your children as you discuss the structure of your family and their friends' families. Ambre does an admirable job of helping children understand that they are special, no matter how they came to be.
