The Breadwinner (The Breadwinner Trilogy Book 1) is a zombie apocalyptic horror story by Stevie Kopas. The end of the world is bad and Kopas is there to show us just how ugly it gets when humans become flesh-starved, crazy, vicious monsters. The story hops between different characters’ lives. Ben is a military veteran who knows a thing or two about fighting, but he’s never had an enemy as unpredictable as the flesh-eating zombies. Samson is a criminal defense attorney who is just trying to keep his family safe as the world breaks into pieces all around him. Andrew is a police officer who is trying to discover if there is any humanity left in the world that has not literally been eaten by the undead. Veronica is a high school track star and her mission is to get her brother clear of the deadly city. They aren’t necessarily trying to be heroes. They just want to survive.

The Breadwinner is a cool zombie story and will definitely appeal to readers who love horror and a good 'end-of-the-world-by-zombies' story. I liked how Kopas decided to have a number of different characters and tell each of their stories. I thought that was a smart idea. It gives the reader a lot of different options of characters to root for and chapters to enjoy. His vision of what the end of the world would look like was creepy and startling, because it seemed very realistic. His description was so good that I fear that it could be true.
