The Brotherhood II by L.A. Maldonado is a young adult fantasy about the Brotherhood of Life. Marcus doesn't want to be immortal anymore. So when he is contacted by the Brotherhood of Life, he jumps at the chance to earn back his freedom. All he has to do is enter the land of the dead and defeat a demon and his recruited fallen spirits. But Marcus has been stripped of all his immortal powers. His only weapons are his courage and the Amulet of God. He must defeat the demon using his courage and his wits, but if he cannot, then he risks having his soul left behind in the dark, unforgiving underworld forever.

This is a really interesting read that fantasy fans and fans of mythology will really enjoy. The writing is tight and pulls the reader in, right from the very start. The concept is fascinating and readers will really relate to Marcus and his struggles. How interesting that a man could become tired with the idea of immortality. It is also interesting to consider the extremes that Marcus will go to in order to give up that immortality. Many readers are used to stories where characters are chasing immortality, so to read a story where that is flipped on its head is unique and refreshing. Readers will enjoy this fresh take on an otherwise classic fantasy theme.
