The Duncans Are Coming by Michael N. Wilton is a romantic comedy. William Duncan has agreed for his uncle, Lord Beddington, to teach him about estate management and decides to help raise money for the local hospital. But life was never meant to run smoothly and it certainly doesn’t for William. After Lord Beddington and his wife suffer some unfortunate accidents, William enlists his father’s help. General Duncan is not remembered too fondly by others though. William is in love with Kate, the daughter of a councilor, but Lavinia is desperate to marry and sets her sights on him. Help arrives from General Duncan’s ADC, Algy Frobisher, who pitches in to help with the General’s mounting bills, an air rescue, and a hunt for treasure that should solve everything and get Kate back where she belongs – by his side.
The Duncans Are Coming by Michael N. Wilton is a hilarious comedy of errors, reminiscent of Monty Python and Tom Sharpe. Full of action, this is a story that encompasses many typically British quirks, with plenty of misfortune along the way. While it may be a fictional comedic tale, there is more than one grain of truth in this story and anyone familiar with British aristocracy will spot them straight away. A finely written story, this has all the hallmarks of a great TV series. It’s got everything – unfortunate accidents, totally avoidable mishaps, and romance, all thrown into an adventurous tale. The characters are a wonderfully diverse, quirky bunch, well developed and so very relatable, and you are guaranteed plenty of laughs from them. This is a fast-paced hilarious romp that will leave you giggling even after you finish reading it.
