Mickey Haller is at it again! Reduced to representing foreclosure cases due to economic downturn (and defense clients having little to pay for a lawyer), he has found a lucrative niche. In fact, his team now has an office and has added an associate who is proving to be a diamond in the rough. When he receives a desperate call from a foreclosure client, Lisa Tremmel, life turns upside down. She is being held for the murder of the banker in charge of her defunct home loan. It looks bleak but this persistent team stares danger in the face, finding enough loose strings to argue her case. Thugs, the mob, distortion, lies and probably the biggest twist you just could not see coming make this book excellent in the very least.

I love to listen to the voice of Peter Giles. He has a way of altering his voice just enough to give each character their own personality. I think the fact that he can go through an argumentative dialogue between two or more people without skipping is indicative of his talent.

Michael Connelly does not disappoint! He uses the story line to carry on from his last work, reminding the reader that there is more to the character of Mickey Haller and the complicated life he lives. Mr. Connelly describes his scenes as if he and the reader were sitting at a table, watching it unfold first-person. I know more about the Van Nuys area layout than I ever did before. Highly Recommended to suspense buffs!!
