The Ghost in the Garden by Alisse Lee Goldenberg is an engaging middle-grade ghost story. It follows Sophie Madison, an almost twelve-year-old girl who has to uncover a mystery before it's too late. Sophie isn't happy that she and her family just moved from Calgary, Alberta, to Stratford, Ontario. She misses her old friends, but fortunately, the new place fascinates her from the first day. When strange things happen, Sophie discovers that her new home isn't what it seems. In the garden, she meets a young girl who always sits on the bench, and at night, she hears strange noises and believes she even saw a shadow figure in her room. Is her room haunted? Why does her closet never stay shut, even though she always closes it? Does she imagine seeing and hearing things because of the new change in her life, or is something wrong with this old house?

The Ghost in the Garden is a suspenseful page-turner filled with great characters, mystery, and a plot that keeps you hanging on until the end. It's a hit for readers who love middle-grade ghost stories, small-town adventures, old houses, and brave young female protagonists. Alisse Lee Goldenberg's story is both compelling and unsettling, with plenty of goosebumps. It's about new beginnings, friendship, guilt, grief, and giving new places and people a chance. It shows how important it is to have someone to help you deal with your stress and who believes you, no matter what. Younger readers may not wish to read this young adult story alone at night.
