Christmas is all about family, love, and most definitely the food. There are countless recipe books that provide countless recipes for those sweet treats we only associate with the festive season. But that’s not all we eat: what about the savory dishes, should they not also be special? And, better yet, they should be attractive, appealing, and require minimal effort. The last thing we want to do is spend our holidays slaving in the kitchen when we could be enjoying the food, the love, and the family gatherings.

Manny Sullivan’s Christmas cookbook, The Holly Jolly Christmas Cookbook: 29 Classic Recipes for a Traditional Christmas, is a small but enticing treasuring of savory Christmas treats. The author begins with an interesting introduction that is both inspirational and encouraging, enabling families to enjoy the bountiful foods of the season without all the fuss and bother. From different ways to prepare turkey to whole roasted cauliflower and roasted bacon in maple, there is something in this book for every taste preference. Accompanied by mouth-watering photographs of the finished dish, the recipes are well laid out, beginning with a list of ingredients (most of which are easy to find in the local grocery store) and well-detailed preparation instructions. For some of the dishes, there are prepare-ahead options so you don’t have to prepare all the main dishes at the same time. This is a great addition to one’s cookbook collection. Many of the dishes, though seasonal, can be prepared for any evening meal during the year.
